{our next step}

I contacted the school this morning to get and exemption for my child from the CST testing. All you need to do is write a letter like the example below and turn it into the school your child attends. Make sure to include the school year in your letter.....(There is not an official document to fill out.) They will contact you to let you know where your child will be during the testing.....

Last night at the board meeting Tobin Brinker spoke telling the board members that all we need for Terrace Hills Middle school is 50 students to opt out of testing and the entire schools scores will not be counted when the district is evaluated......

Here is a sample waiver request:

Dear School Administrator,
I am requesting an exemption for my child______________________ from taking the STAR test (CST) the school year of 2008 /2009 . Education code 60615 states, “ Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a parent's or guardian's written request to school officials to excuse his or her child from any or all parts of the assessments administered pursuant to this chapter shall be granted.” Please contact me in writing to confirm receipt of this request and inform me where my child will be during the testing time and what instruction will be provided.

Sincerely,Your name
Phone #

Please send to all parents........Wendy Baker

If you really want to tell the board you want the name changed to Grand Terrace High School, this is the way to do it!

This isn't the way to do it. Read my comment in response to {An FYI} on why this isn't likely to influence the board.

What this is likely to do is hurt the reputation of Grand Terrace Schools. Having no API due to lack of participation is going to be a red flag for any parent looking for a home in Grand Terrace. Most schools that fail to meet minimum participation rates are usually fairly poor schools where the administration tried to cherry pick the students taking the exams to make the school look better than it really is. Most people that aren't familiar with the local politics aren't going to know the real reason and will assume the worst.
