{Meet the New Head Counselor}

As a graduate of the Colton Joint Unified School District, Simona Welzel is very exciting to finally see a new high school opening its doors to our students.
involvement in AVID opened the doors to many of the opportunities she has had in her life. After graduating from Cal State San Bernardino with her Bachelor of Arts, she attended Chapman University for her teaching credential and Master of Arts degree. She taught English and AVID at Bloomington High School for four years. During that time, she was working on her counseling credential. In 2005, she became a counselor at Bloomington High School, and takes great pride in working diligently with students, parents, and staff to support academic student success. This support revolves around her commitment to utilizing available resources for both academic and personal/social needs, and to ensure appropriate student placement. In addition, she believe it is important to encourage students to challenge themselves academically, in an effort to be most prepared for post-secondary education options. I am excited and honored to transition into this next chapter of my life and to serve the Grand Terrace High School students, parents, and staff as the Head Counselor.
