I took the waivers to my kids schools. The principal at one school wanted to talk to me about what I was doing. I had to be strong I explained everything too him and I also stated that I didn't want my child/children singled out. They said that would never happen. I hope that others are doing the same. I think it looks good if we do this in numbers. Remember we are doing this for our High School and what we feel is right. They choose not to listen to us now it's our turn to show them that we are here and we will do whatever it takes.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me.
I also know of at least 10 other parents that have done the same.

I turned mine is as well.... If they change the name before testing we can opt back in for our kids to be tested.
Great work!
The administrators and some teachers will try to talk people out of doing this, but don't listen to them. The fact that they are trying to persuade people to not pull their kids shows that it's got their attention and it's working.
Let's keep up the pressure.
I doubt this tactic will have any success. I don't think the current school board has really demonstrated much interest in their performance on standardized tests. 6 of the elementary schools are in the 5th years of Program Improvement because they have consistently failed to meet the goals set by the No Child Left Behind Act. The official graduation rate for the district for 2006-2007 was 67.3%. Both high schools have been in the bottom 20% of API scores in the state for high school for most of the last 10 years.
If they aren't embarrassed by those statistics why would failing to meet minimum participation rate on the CST have any effect on them? The fact that they done little to improve any of those problems should tell you that the majority of the board isn't likely to change their behavior based upon your protest.
How many PTA Meetings do you folks attend? You don't have to have a child in school to be a member an ACTIVE member of the PTA or Mentor a Child/Student at the current CHS.
What have you done other than squabble about a name?
The point it the Name is the CJUSD Board putting the tumbs in the GT City Council Eyes, for: Not supporting them on not wanting the power plant, for selling them land that was at the edge of town not the center of town, for saying it is a school for GT, some how forgetting the rest of the students that will also attend the school... and so forth...
What you should do is get Colton Residents in Support for the name GT High School as a body to demonstrate that the CJUSD Board has taken on more than just GT by this petty action they have demonstrated their ineptatude and imaturity... and perhaps lost even more votes than the GT Block.
This tactic WILL get their attention. It may not do more than that, but it's an important step, and right now we need to do anything that is available to us.
There are so many schools in the district already not doing well. Like the previous commentor so aptly stated: "6 of the elementary schools are in the 5th years of Program Improvement because they have consistently failed to meet the goals set by the No Child Left Behind Act. The official graduation rate for the district for 2006-2007 was 67.3%. Both high schools have been in the bottom 20% of API scores in the state for high school for most of the last 10 years."
My point is, there couldn't be a bigger blow to the district's test scores than taking the top schools out the equation. And trust me, districts do worry about test scores.
All the attacks on each other about "not being anonymous" and "you should volunteer at your school" NEED to stop. Are we unified about changing the name OR WHAT?! You CANNOT assume or be ignorant about what people are doing now for their community or have in the past.
PLEASE remain unified on the fact that the issue at hand is that what the 5 members of the CJUSD board did was an injustice to the people of the CJUSD. It is that plain and simple.
Everyone has the right to take whatever legal action they want to gain attention and acknowledgement from the board.
